If you are anything like me this year, you’ve been racing against the clock to get everything ready for Christmas. Thanksgiving was late this year, so there was too much to do in such a little time – decorating the house, buying gifts, wrapping presents, baking cookies – the list goes on and on. And if I’m being completely honest, running at this hurried pace has left me flat-out exhausted and overwhelmed. I’m sure I am not alone.
But as I sit and finally pause on this Christmas Eve morning, I remind myself of why this season is so meaningful. It’s more than the gifts, the food, and the festivities. It’s a time to celebrate the birth of my Savior and to reflect on the magnitude of His great love for me.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. – John 3:16
As we enter into the home stretch of the season, I want to encourage you to not miss Jesus this Christmas. In all the busyness, don’t miss what our Heavenly Father gave to us. Christmas is about the gift of God’s love through His Son, Jesus. Won’t you join me in this simple Christmas prayer?
Dear Jesus,
Please prepare my heart to experience the fullness of your love and joy this Christmas. Help me to slow down so that I don’t miss the fact that I have already received the greatest gift of all – your birth and the gift of eternal life. Thank you for your unconditional love and for the joy that only you can provide. Amen.
